Volkswagen – Mahindra joins Together: Volkswagen and Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M) have partnered to explore the use of MEB electric components in Mahindra’s new Born Electric Platform. These two companies have also announced that they have signed a partnership agreement to evaluate the above objective.

Mahindra intends to equip its “Born Electric Platform” with MEP electric components such as electric motors, battery system components, and battery cells. For this, it enters into a partnership agreement with Volkswagen. Under this, the binding rules for the assessment stage and the non-binding scope of supply are to ascertained. Further, in the statement issued by these companies, it has been mentioned that the specified bond supply agreement will be conducted amicably and will be completed by the end of 2022.

Designed as an open vehicle platform, the MEP Electric Platform and its components allow car manufacturers to quickly and cost-effectively build their portfolio of electrified vehicles. It is under this main objective that these two companies have decided to work together. There is no doubt that this is a very important part of automotive developments.

Thomas Schmal, a member of the Volkswagen Group Executive Committee and COE of Volkswagen Group Components, said, “Mahindra is a pioneer in the electric mobility space in India and a great partner for our MEP electric platform. Together with Mahindra, we want to make a significant contribution to the electrification of India, which not only a tremendous growth but also a huge automotive market that is highly suited to climate protection. “MEP is very important for every company in the EV world,” he said.

Commenting on the partnership, Rajesh Jejurikar, Managing Director, Auto, and Pharma Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, said, “We are very excited to partner with Volkswagen, a significant global investor in the electric mobility space. “We believe the integration of Volkswagen’s extensive technology, innovation, and supply chains will provide a framework for building our next-generation Born Electric platform.”

It also worth noting that Volkswagen’s MEP electric platform is used by the group’s brands such as Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, and Seat/Capra, as well as external partners. India is one of the top-5 global auto markets with around three million vehicles per year. It also estimated that this market could grow to five million vehicles by 2030.
