<p>Brad Samuels didn’t set out to create a neighborhood phenomenon. What started as a practical purchase—a freeze dryer for camping and backpacking meals—quickly evolved into something much sweeter and more meaningful for his community.</p>

<p>Samuels initially used his freeze dryer to prepare meals for outdoor adventures, but its potential for creating candy caught his attention. “Freeze-dried candy&#8230;you see it all over the internet,” he said, referring to the growing trend of turning treats like Skittles and Jolly Ranchers into crispy, nostalgic delights.</p>
<p>What started as a playful experiment soon became a creative outlet. Samuels delighted in transforming familiar candies into something even more fun, sharing the joy with his neighbors.</p>

<p>“We noticed there was a fair amount of graffiti and trash around the neighborhood,” he explained. “We knew kids would be open to helping clean up in exchange for free candy.”</p>
<p>The idea took off. Before long, kids in the neighborhood were knocking on Samuels’ door, eager to tidy up public spaces and improve their surroundings. The exchange of candy for community service created a ripple effect, turning a simple treat into a powerful motivator.</p>

<p>Samuels describes the experience as profoundly rewarding. “Since moving to this neighborhood, it’s felt really rewarding to help give back a little bit and do whatever we can,” he shared.</p>
<p>Now, his home has become a gathering spot for local kids. They come not just for candy but for the sense of belonging and purpose that Samuels’ initiative fosters.</p>
