<p data-start="470" data-end="773">A four-year federal grant meant to support Mesa County Libraries&#8217; Adult Learning Center hit a snag this July. Instead of receiving their expected second-year disbursement, library administrators were notified that the funding is now under federal review — with no clear reason and no confirmed timeline.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="cy5s35" data-start="775" data-end="828">A Program Built on Stability Now Teetering on Edge</h2>
<p data-start="830" data-end="918">Michelle Boisvenue-Fox, Executive Director of Mesa County Libraries, didn’t mince words.</p>
<p data-start="920" data-end="1090">“It’s really hard because we’re dealing with people’s lives,” she said. “Our instructors, of course, but also students and their future education goals in the community.”</p>
<p data-start="1092" data-end="1295">The grant pays salaries for six instructors at the Adult Learning Center — the backbone of a program that provides GED prep and English language classes to adult learners across the Grand Valley.</p>
<p data-start="1297" data-end="1555">Come August, the center expects to serve around 180 students. That number includes working parents, recent immigrants, and adults who’ve fallen through the cracks of traditional schooling systems. For them, this isn’t just a class — it’s a second chance.</p>

<p data-start="4424" data-end="4620">Despite the uncertainty, Boisvenue-Fox isn’t sounding the alarm for nothing. She’s encouraging residents to speak up — especially those who’ve benefited from the Adult Learning Center in the past.</p>
<p data-start="4622" data-end="4792">“It helps if people contact their legislators,” she said. “And those who want to support directly can donate to the Adult Learning Center through the library foundation.”</p>
<p data-start="4794" data-end="4969">So far, there’s no word on when the federal review will be complete or what prompted it. The library has submitted required documentation and is awaiting an official response.</p>
