The Grand Junction Jackalopes have officially named Frank Gonzales as their manager for the 2025 season, bringing an experienced and passionate leader back to the Pioneer League.
A Veteran Returns to Familiar Ground
Hailing from La Junta, Colorado, Gonzales has deep roots in baseball. After an eight-year playing career primarily within the Detroit Tigers organization, he transitioned to coaching—a move that has defined his professional life.
“Managing and coaching is definitely something that’s in my blood, and I love working with young players chasing the dream,” Gonzales shared. His love for mentoring and developing talent aligns perfectly with the Jackalopes’ goals.
Having previously managed the Jackalopes successfully for two seasons, Gonzales is no stranger to Grand Junction. “Grand Junction is one of my favorite places to coach and manage,” he added.
A Career Built on Experience
Gonzales’s baseball journey began at Colorado State University, where he graduated in 1989 and was drafted in the 16th round by the Detroit Tigers. His minor league pitching career spanned eight years, culminating in 1997.
Following his playing days, Gonzales led the Colorado State University baseball team from 1999 to 2005, securing national titles in his final two seasons. This impressive stint cemented his reputation as a coach capable of building winning teams.
In recent years, Gonzales managed the Northern Colorado Owlz, achieving a solid 99-90 record over two seasons.
Building a Winning Culture
The Jackalopes’ ownership, led by Mike Tollin, expressed enthusiasm about Gonzales’s return. “He is a lifelong Coloradan and the consummate baseball ‘skipper’—determined to teach the finer points of the game to young players and at the same time to put an exciting, winning club on the field,” Tollin said.
With the 2025 season approaching, Gonzales’s leadership promises to combine player development with a focus on creating an engaging fan experience.
The Jackalopes’ faithful can look forward to an exciting season under Gonzales’s guidance as he blends his expertise with his passion for the game.
