Garfield Re-2 School District Announces New Superintendent

The Garfield Re-2 School District has selected a new leader to guide its schools into the future. After an extensive search process, Kirk Banghart has been named the next superintendent, set to take over on July 1, 2025.

Leadership Transition After Extensive Search

Following the retirement announcement of current superintendent Heather Grumley, the district launched a rigorous selection process. Officials reviewed 18 applicants before narrowing the field to four finalists. Interviews were conducted in early March, culminating in Banghart’s appointment.

Who is Kirk Banghart?

Banghart brings a wealth of experience in education leadership. Currently serving as the Vice President and Chief Facilitator for Generation Schools Network, he has also held various key positions in Colorado school districts, including:

  • Superintendent of Moffat 2 School District
  • Director of Teaching and Learning
  • Middle School Principal
  • Dean of Students for Salida School District

His background in both administrative leadership and classroom education gives him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing Garfield Re-2 schools.
