GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Garfield Re-2 School District has officially selected Kirk Banghart as its new superintendent. After an extensive search and evaluation process, Banghart will take over the role on July 1, 2025, following the retirement of current superintendent Heather Grumley at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.
A Thorough Selection Process
The district received 18 applications for the position and narrowed the field down to four finalists, who participated in interviews during the week of March 3. After careful consideration, the school board chose Banghart, citing his extensive background in education and leadership.
Banghart’s Experience and Vision
Banghart brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Currently, he serves as the Vice President and Chief Facilitator for Generation Schools Network. His background also includes:
- Former Superintendent of Moffat 2 School District
- Director of Teaching and Learning
- Middle School Principal
- Dean of Students for Salida School District
With his diverse experience in both administrative and academic roles, Banghart is expected to bring fresh ideas and strategies to the Garfield Re-2 School District.
