Rifle Police Seek Suspect in Domestic Violence Case, Warn Public to Stay Vigilant

Police in the western Colorado city of Rifle are actively searching for a man wanted on multiple criminal charges — including several felonies tied to domestic violence.

The suspect, Jesus Joel Marquez-Carreon, is facing an array of charges that paint a troubling picture of repeated offenses and escalating behavior.

The Charges

According to the Rifle Police Department (RPD), the following charges have been filed:

  • Second Degree Burglary (Felony)

  • First Degree Criminal Trespass (Felony)

  • Stalking (Felony)

  • Harassment (Misdemeanor)

  • Violation of a Protection Order (Misdemeanor)

  • Domestic Violence (Sentence Enhancer)

Police confirmed that three of the charges are felonies, and Marquez-Carreon has a documented history of repeated domestic violence incidents.

“This is a case we’re taking extremely seriously,” said an RPD spokesperson in a brief statement. “We’re asking the public to remain alert and call in any tips that may assist our search.”

Public Help Requested

Authorities are urging anyone with information on Marquez-Carreon’s whereabouts to contact the Rifle Police Department at (970) 625-0895.

Those who wish to remain anonymous can submit a tip online via the department’s official portal.

Local residents are being encouraged to avoid approaching the suspect directly. “If you see him, call us immediately,” the department emphasized. “Do not try to intervene.”

A Pattern of Violence

Court records and police logs suggest Marquez-Carreon has a pattern of violating protection orders and harassing former partners. The current charges stem from what officials describe as a persistent cycle of unwanted contact and escalating threats.

Domestic violence advocates in the region say the case highlights the ongoing danger posed by repeat offenders who breach court orders.

“This is why enforcement and timely reporting are crucial,” said Julie Torres, a crisis response coordinator in Garfield County. “A protection order is only as strong as the response behind it.”

Law Enforcement on Alert

As of Wednesday morning, Rifle police had not confirmed the suspect’s last known location, but said “several leads” are being followed up. Patrol units and investigators are coordinating across jurisdictions in case Marquez-Carreon attempts to flee the region.
