Guidelines on Style for Authors
- Word Count:
- Short Articles: 600 – 1200 words.
- In-Depth Analysis: 1000 – 1500 words.
- Long-Form Articles: 1500 – 2500 words.
- Headlines and Titles: Must be crisp and encapsulate the essence of the article.
- Introductions: For features, include a short intro about the story before the actual introduction. This can carry your byline in italics, with your name in bold and not italicized.
- References: Hyperlink all references in the body of the text. If no online source is available, use in-text citations.
- Language:
- Use British spelling and grammar. If quoting a document with American spellings, do not change them.
- Italicize non-English terms on first appearance and provide an English translation in parentheses or an endnote.
- Avoid archaic, colonial, sexist, or prejudicial language. Use simpler terms to help readers understand better.
- Quotes: Ensure each quote makes a different point. Paraphrase if the quote is too long or grammatically incorrect.
- Dates: Use the format “Month Day, Year” (e.g., January 26, 2020). If it is the same year, use “Month Day this year” (e.g., January 26th this year).
