A late-night crash has left the Warsaw community grieving, as authorities continue to investigate the tragic death of a pedestrian early Sunday morning.
Fatal Crash Unfolds Just After Midnight
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of U.S. 30 and Parker Street shortly after midnight, following a report of a serious collision involving a pedestrian.
According to the initial investigation, a 2012 Dodge Journey was traveling eastbound in the right lane of U.S. 30, just past the intersection, when it struck an individual walking in the roadway.
The driver told officers they attempted to avoid the pedestrian but could not swerve in time.
Victim Identified as Warsaw Resident Hector Hinojosa
Authorities have identified the pedestrian as Hector Hinojosa, a resident of Warsaw. Hinojosa suffered severe injuries in the collision and was transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne, where he was later pronounced dead.
No information has been released regarding why Hinojosa was in the travel lane at the time of the crash.
Investigation Remains Active
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Fatal Team to assist with a detailed reconstruction of the crash. Officers continue to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and analyze the scene.
Key aspects under review include:
-
Road and lighting conditions at the time
-
Driver behavior and speed
-
Pedestrian visibility factors
-
Vehicle mechanical inspections
At this time, no criminal charges have been announced. Investigators say the crash remains under active review.
A Community Shaken
News of Hinojosa’s death has spread quickly through the Warsaw area. Friends and neighbors have described him as a quiet, hardworking man who cared deeply for his family and community.
“He didn’t deserve this,” one local resident shared. “It’s so heartbreaking to lose someone this way.”
Some community members are also raising concerns about pedestrian safety along busy stretches of U.S. 30, especially during nighttime hours when visibility can be poor.
Officials have not released further statements but are expected to update the public as the investigation progresses.
