GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A man accused of leading sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed vehicle pursuit that ended with a tactical PIT maneuver made his first court appearance Tuesday in Mesa County.
Adam Inskeep, 42, was formally charged with vehicular eluding and reckless endangerment, along with other unspecified charges, during the hearing on May 6. No changes to the charges were made at that time, and his next court date has been scheduled for June 5 for a review hearing.
Warrants Spark Dangerous Pursuit
The incident began on April 28, when deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Inskeep on several outstanding warrants. The arrest attempt quickly escalated when Inskeep fled the scene, triggering a pursuit through parts of the county.
Authorities say deputies ultimately deployed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver — a tactic used to force a fleeing vehicle to abruptly turn and stop — bringing the chase to an end. No injuries or crashes were reported during the stop.
Serious Charges Pending
Vehicular eluding in Colorado is a felony offense, especially when it involves reckless driving or endangerment to the public. Reckless endangerment, another key charge Inskeep faces, suggests that law enforcement believes his actions posed a substantial risk of injury to others during the pursuit.
Inskeep was taken into custody without incident after the PIT maneuver. Details about his previous warrants or any potential bond conditions have not been made public.
Court Proceedings Continue
The May 6 hearing marked the formal filing of charges, a standard step in the judicial process following a felony arrest. The review hearing set for June 5 will likely address evidence status, potential plea discussions, and whether the case proceeds to trial.
Mesa County judicial officials did not comment on whether Inskeep remains in custody pending the next hearing
