Neighbors React to Fatal Christmas Day Shooting in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A fatal shooting in the 1600 block of Wells Street on Christmas Day has left the community in shock, with two men now in custody. Neighbors described the scene as “scary” as police responded to the shooting, which claimed the life of one man.

Arrests Made in Connection with the Shooting

The two men arrested in connection with the fatal shooting are Chad Kinney, 46, and Shawn Williams, 47. Both face preliminary murder charges. Williams was apprehended just hours after the incident, around 10:30 p.m., near the intersection of Stellhorn and Maplecrest Roads. Neighbors Share Their Reactions

Residents in the area were startled by the heavy police presence. Lillian Ryckman and Meadow Swynn, who live near the crime scene, shared their experience. “We were leaving for dinner and saw all the cop cars. Came back and walked up by G.I Joe’s to take a look, there were cops with flashlights and everything was blocked off, so it was kinda scary,” said Ryckman.

This incident follows a similar tragedy from September in the same area, where a man was shot and killed by police after attempting to break into a home.

One neighbor reflected on the recurring violence in the area: “Unfortunately it’s not super uncommon… We’ve had a couple issues and had to call the police… it becomes out of hand. It’s very sad to see someone lost so close to home.”

Investigation Ongoing

The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and Allen County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the shooting
