GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A breathtaking holiday light display in Grand Junction has captivated residents and visitors alike, featuring a stunning 33-foot-tall Christmas tree and 30,000 LED pixels illuminating the night sky.
A Tradition That Grew Into a Community Event
What began as a small project has evolved into an annual tradition that attracts hundreds of visitors. John Krause, the mastermind behind the display, has been decking out his home for the past 12 years. His holiday decorations have grown in scale, transforming his house into a dazzling spectacle on 325 Northridge Drive.
The display has become a local attraction, with many people driving by each night to witness the colorful lights. Krause, always in the holiday spirit, greets viewers outside his home, handing out candy canes to children and families.
Lights Synchronized to Music
One of the most remarkable features of the light display is its synchronization with the music. The display is coded to radio station 102.9, where nine songs play in harmony with the lights. Each song takes around 40 hours to program, ensuring that every light shines in perfect timing with the music. Visitors can tune in to radio station 109.2 to experience the magic as the lights dance to the festive tunes.
Setting Up for the Holiday Season
Krause begins preparing for the display as early as October, working tirelessly to set up the intricate lighting system. The lights are first turned on the Friday after Thanksgiving and stay on through Christmas Eve. Although Christmas has passed, the enchanting display continues to run, offering a cheerful farewell to the holiday season.
