The Fruita Area Chamber of Commerce just dropped a major opportunity for high school seniors: five $1,000 scholarships are now up for grabs through the Fruita Foundation. If you’re a Fruita Monument Wildcat, home-schooled in the 81521 zip code, or a Fruita resident attending any Grand Valley high school, this money is waiting for you. Applications are live right now and close March 20th.
Who Can Apply? Pretty Much Every Fruita Kid with a Diploma in Sight
The Chamber made the rules simple and inclusive on purpose.
You qualify if you:
- Are a senior at Fruita Monument High School
- Are home-schooled but live in the Fruita area
- Live in Fruita and attend any other high school in the Grand Valley
“That’s exactly what we wanted,” said Fruita Area Chamber Executive Director Amanda DeVillez. “We didn’t want a single deserving Fruita kid to miss out just because they go to Grand Junction High or Central.”
Five Students Will Each Walk Away with $1,000
The Fruita Foundation Board will personally review every application and select five winners.
Each recipient gets $1,000 directly toward their college, trade school, or technical program.
Last year the scholarships went to students heading to CMU, Western Colorado Community College, and even an out-of-state university. The foundation says the money can be used anywhere the student chooses.
Deadline is March 20 – Don’t Sleep on This
Applications are open now and close Wednesday, March 20, 2025 at midnight.
You can grab the application in three ways:
- Pick up a physical copy at the Fruita Area Chamber of Commerce office (325 E Aspen Ave, Suite 160)
- Get it from the Fruita Monument High School counseling office
- Download it instantly from fruitachamber.com/scholarships
The form is only two pages and asks for basic info, a short essay about your future goals, and two letters of recommendation.
Why the Chamber Keeps Doing This Year After Year
DeVillez says the scholarship program started because local business owners kept asking, “How can we keep our best kids here or help them come back after college?”
Since the program began, the Fruita Foundation has awarded more than $65,000 to local students.
“This isn’t just charity,” one Chamber board member told me. “It’s an investment in the people who will lead Fruita tomorrow.”
Several past winners now own businesses on Fruita’s main strip or work at local companies that helped fund these very scholarships.
Get Your Application in Before Spring Break Hits
Seniors, listen up: March 20th falls right before spring break for most District 51 schools.
Submit early so you’re not scrambling at the last minute with spotty hotel Wi-Fi.
Multiple counselors at Fruita Monument told me this is one of the easiest $1,000 scholarships their students can apply for all year.
Five Fruita-area seniors are about to have $1,000 less stress when those college bills hit next fall, and one of them could be you. The Fruita Area Chamber of Commerce has believed in our kids for years, and right now they’re putting real money behind that belief. Grab that application today and tell us in the comments who you’re rooting for this year.
