A downtown treasure that’s stitched itself into the lives of generations — POLLUX boutique — just celebrated 25 years of helping Grand Junction look and feel its best.
A Quarter Century of Style on Main Street
On July 12, shoppers, friends, and familiar faces gathered at POLLUX’s Main Street spot to toast its silver anniversary. What started as a simple shop with a vision is now a landmark — a place where “shopping local” means more than just buying clothes.
Sadye Saad, who’s owned the store for a year and a half, knows the power of its legacy better than most. “I’ve been shopping here for 25 years,” she said, laughing about her closet full of finds. “I’m so proud to carry this forward.”
One short line sums it up: cute clothes, loyal shoppers, and a whole lot of heart.
Ivy’s Vision and the Threads That Bind
The story goes back to Ivy Parnasius, who opened POLLUX right by the Avalon Theatre in 1999. Her idea was simple but bold for the time — Grand Junction deserved fashionable clothes without a road trip to Denver or Salt Lake.
After six years, the boutique moved to its current home on Main Street. For eight years before Sadye stepped in, Jessica Lopez ran the show, keeping Ivy’s vision alive while adding her own flair.
What’s the secret sauce? Community. Over two and a half decades, POLLUX has become part of shoppers’ stories — weddings, graduations, first dates, and job interviews all dressed up with a little help from that star logo.
Confidence, Connection, and a Star to Guide You
Sadye lights up when she talks about what makes the place tick. “When you look good, you feel good,” she says. It’s about so much more than racks of blouses and dresses. It’s about confidence — and about women lifting each other up.
Some shoppers say it feels like visiting an old friend. The staff remember your size. They’ll tell you, honestly, if that top is the one.
This past year, Sadye added a star to the logo — the Pollux star — a nod to its name and a reminder that you can always find your way back. “It’s your guiding light,” she says.
One line: a tiny star overhead, and a big one in the storefront window.
25 Years Down, Many More to Go
If the last 25 years are anything to go by, POLLUX isn’t going anywhere. Sadye says the plan is to keep the spirit alive — inspiring creativity and connection through fashion.
In the middle of the anniversary party, longtime customers swapped stories:
-
“I got my first date outfit here.”
-
“My daughter’s graduation dress came from this rack.”
-
“This place just makes you feel good.”
There’s no fancy strategy, really — just clothes, laughter, and the kind of care that turns a store into a touchstone.
One customer said, “There’s just something about POLLUX. It’s local, it’s real — you don’t get that at the mall.”
A Star That Keeps Shining
Sadye knows that fashion comes and goes, but the people make it last. She talks about the next 25, even 50 years, with a twinkle in her eye. “I’m honored,” she says. “And excited to keep building on what Ivy started.”
Maybe someday a little girl shopping for her prom dress will grow up to be the next owner. Maybe the Pollux star will shine above Main Street for another century.
For now, one thing’s for sure: if you need a cute top — or just a place where someone remembers your name — POLLUX will be waiting, door open, star shining.
