If you are looking for a loyal, affectionate, and playful companion, you might want to consider adopting Dexter. Dexter is a 2-year-old male Pit Bull who is up for adoption at the Grand Rivers Humane Society. He is the pet of the week and he will surely steal your heart with his adorable personality.
Dexter’s Appearance and Personality
Dexter is a gray/white Pit Bull who weighs 56lbs. He has a compact body and a cute block head. He walks well on leash and loves to get attention from people. He is very friendly and gets along with other dogs as well. He would enjoy a daily walk and some cuddles on the couch.
Dexter is not aggressive or shy, but he can be anxious at times if he doesn’t know you well. He needs a home where he can feel safe and loved. He also needs regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and shiny.
Dexter’s Adoption Story
Dexter was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Mesa County by the Grand Rivers Humane Society. The organization was founded in 2005 by Dr. Joe Maruca, who wanted to save cats and dogs that were homeless or nearing euthanasia in the area. Since then, Grand Rivers has saved almost 7,000 local pets.
Dexter was one of the many dogs that Grand Rivers adopted out to loving families over the years. However, he also faced some challenges along the way. He had some behavioral issues that made him difficult to train and socialize. He also had some health problems that required medication and veterinary care.
Fortunately, Dexter found his forever home with a kind couple who understood his needs and gave him the love and support he deserved. They have been taking good care of him ever since they adopted him in January 2023.

Adoption fees help cover the costs of spaying/neutering surgeries, vaccinations, medical treatments, microchipping fees, etc., as well as support Grand Rivers’ mission of saving more animals in need.
Grand Rivers Humane Society also offers foster programs for people who want to help homeless pets temporarily until they find their permanent homes. Fostering saves lives by reducing overcrowding in shelters and providing medical care for animals in need.
