JUCO World Series Opens National Anthem Auditions for 2025

Grand Junction’s biggest party is looking for voices. The Alpine Bank Junior College World Series wants singers to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 68th tournament this May, and auditions are now open through Sunday, April 14.

For many locals, stepping onto Suplizio Field to sing in front of thousands is a once-in-a-lifetime moment. This year, the entertainment committee needs more than a dozen soloists and groups to cover every game from May 24 to May 31.

How to Audition Before the Deadline

Singers have two easy ways to try out.

In-person auditions happen Sunday, April 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at River of Life Alliance Church on North Avenue.

Those who cannot attend can submit a video online. Record yourself singing the full national anthem a cappella, upload it unlisted to YouTube, and fill out the form at jucogj.org/anthem by midnight April 14.

Committee members say they judge on pitch, pacing, and stage presence. No accompaniment is allowed, just like game day.

Why Local Voices Matter at JUCO

Tom Sheldon has helped pick singers for years. He says the tradition of homegrown talent is what sets the tournament apart.

“It’s part of our identity,” Sheldon told reporters this week. “You walk into Suplizio Field and you hear someone from Fruita or Palisade or Grand Junction singing the anthem. That local touch is everything.”

Past performers include high school students, church choir members, and even a Grand Junction police officer who brought the crowd to its feet.

A Week That Transforms Grand Junction

The JUCO World Series is far more than baseball. It is the city’s Super Bowl, Coachella, and family reunion rolled into one.

Last year, more than 100,000 fans passed through the gates over eight days. Hotels sell out a year in advance. Local restaurants and bars see their biggest week ever.

The 10 teams that qualify play for a national championship while the community celebrates Colorado’s Western Slope summer kickoff.

First pitch for the opening game is Saturday, May 24 at 9 a.m. The championship is scheduled for May 31 at 6 p.m., though weather can push it to Sunday.

Last Call for Singers

If you have ever wanted to stand on the same field as future Major Leaguers while 8,000 fans stand with hands over hearts, this weekend is your chance.

Slots fill quickly and the committee chooses performers by early May.

One past singer said it best: “I still get chills thinking about it. The crowd, the mountains behind the outfield, the silence before the first note. There is nothing like singing the anthem at JUCO.”

Grab your phone or mark your calendar for Sunday. Grand Junction is listening.
