In an unfortunate turn of events, Powers Hamburgers—a beloved local eatery—has faced a setback just two months after its grand reopening. Early Tuesday morning, flames erupted in the restaurant’s kitchen, leaving behind a trail of damage and uncertainty.
The Midnight Blaze
Shortly after midnight, the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to reports of smoke emanating from Powers Hamburgers. Firefighters arrived within minutes, forcing their way through the front door. Inside, they encountered a small fire in the kitchen, its tendrils of smoke weaving through the building. Fortunately, their swift action extinguished the flames in less than three minutes, and no injuries were reported.
Assessing the Damage
While the fire was contained swiftly, the restaurant still bears the scars. Minor fire and water damage have affected the premises, and the pervasive smoke has left its mark. Powers Hamburgers now faces a temporary closure, leaving employees uncertain about their livelihoods. Managing partner Alex Richardson expressed concern for the dedicated team:
“We have people relying on us for jobs. Our team has worked tirelessly to serve our patrons. Getting back on our feet is crucial for them.”
A Change in Ownership
Powers Hamburgers had only recently reopened under new ownership. The transition promised fresh beginnings, and a grand opening event was scheduled for the week of July 8th through the 13th. Now, restoration efforts will take precedence as the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
