Redlands Lions Club honors patriotic holidays with flag service

The Redlands Lions Club is a community organization that provides various services to the residents of the Redlands area and beyond. One of their most visible and popular services is the flag service, which displays the American flag in front of homes and businesses on nine patriotic holidays throughout the year.

How the flag service works

The flag service is a subscription-based program that costs $35 per year. Customers who sign up for the service receive a metal sleeve that is installed in their yard or sidewalk by the Lions Club members. On each of the nine holidays, the Lions Club volunteers place a 3-by-5-foot flag on a 10-foot pole in the sleeve, and then remove it at the end of the day.

The nine holidays that the flag service covers are:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Presidents Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Flag Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Pearl Harbor Day

Why the flag service is important

The flag service is not only a way to show patriotism and support for the country, but also a way to raise funds for the Lions Club’s charitable activities. The Lions Club uses the money from the flag service to support various causes, such as:

  • Vision screening and eyeglasses for children and adults
  • Scholarships for high school seniors
  • Food baskets for needy families
  • Donations to local nonprofits and schools
  • Disaster relief and humanitarian aid

The flag service also helps to beautify the Redlands area and create a sense of community among the residents. Many customers have expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the flag service, and some have even requested additional flags for special occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries, or graduations.

How to join the flag service

The flag service is open to anyone who lives or works in the Redlands area, or who wants to sponsor a flag for someone else. The Lions Club currently has about 1,200 customers, and is always looking for more. To join the flag service, customers can fill out an online form on the Lions Club website, or contact the flag service coordinator, Bob Smith, at 970-123-4567 or bobsmith@redlandslionsclub.org.

The Lions Club also welcomes new members and volunteers who want to help with the flag service or other projects. The Lions Club meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Redlands Community Center.
