Western Slope Stars Dance for a Cause: Local Celebrities Raise Funds for Community Food Bank

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A night of glitz, glamour, and good deeds took center stage in Grand Junction on May 3, as the Community Food Bank of Grand Junction hosted its first annual Dancing with the Western Slope Stars event. Ten local teams, comprising both dance professionals and community figures, came together to raise funds for a vital cause: feeding families in need.

The star-studded fundraiser saw prominent figures from across the region, including Cody Kennedy, a member of the Grand Junction City Council, and Mesa County Sheriff Todd Rowell, strut their stuff on the dance floor in support of the community food bank’s mission.

“Each of our stars has an individual, different type of engagement in our community, so having them perform for us helps us reach more people who may not know who we are or what we do,” said Jessica Mays, Development Manager at the Community Food Bank. “These stars have been able to showcase a little bit of our programming and raise awareness about our cause.”

A Night of Dance, Community, and Generosity

The event, which featured a blend of entertaining performances, showcased local celebrities in a whole new light. From the first rehearsal in February to the final performance on May 3, participants dedicated countless hours to prepare, culminating in an evening that not only entertained but also raised crucial funds for the food bank.

According to Mays, the event provided an opportunity for the food bank to engage with new audiences and highlight its role in the community. Funds raised will go directly toward supporting the Community Food Bank’s mission to provide food to local families in need, especially during times of economic hardship.

“It helps us in so many ways,” Mays explained. “We are a safety network for a lot of different families and people in various circumstances. This fundraiser allows us to offer resources to those who might otherwise go without.”

The event was not only about raising money but also about fostering deeper connections within the community. The dancing stars, many of whom are local leaders and public figures, demonstrated their commitment to supporting the food bank’s cause while having fun and building excitement.

“It’s been really fun,” Mays said. “I was able to see the stars from the very beginning, up until the final rehearsal, and it’s been delightful to see the progression and dedication they’ve shown to ensure the fundraiser’s success.”

The Community Food Bank of Grand Junction plays a crucial role in supporting the local community, providing food assistance to those facing difficult circumstances. The funds raised during this event will contribute to the food bank’s ongoing efforts to ensure no one in the area goes hungry.
