Grand Junction residents can now get face-to-face tax help from IRS

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has reopened its Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC) in Grand Junction, Colorado, after it was closed for several years due to budget cuts. The TAC, located at 400 Rood Avenue, offers free tax help and services to individuals and businesses who need to resolve their tax issues or file their returns.

Why the TAC was closed and how it reopened

The Grand Junction TAC was one of the many IRS offices that were shut down in 2014 as part of the agency’s efforts to reduce costs and streamline operations. The closure affected thousands of taxpayers in the area who relied on the TAC for in-person assistance and guidance.

However, thanks to the additional funding from the Inflation Reduction Act, which was passed by Congress in 2023, the IRS was able to reopen some of the previously closed offices, including the one in Grand Junction. The Inflation Reduction Act provided the IRS with an extra $1.2 billion for fiscal year 2024, which enabled the agency to hire more staff, improve customer service, and enhance tax enforcement.

How the reopening of the TAC benefits the community

The reopening of the Grand Junction TAC is a welcome news for many taxpayers in the area who prefer to deal with their tax matters in person rather than online or over the phone. The TAC offers a convenient and accessible way for taxpayers to get the help they need, especially during the tax filing season.

The TAC also benefits the local economy, as it creates jobs for IRS employees and generates revenue for nearby businesses. The TAC is located in the downtown of Grand Junction, which is a busy and vibrant area with many shops, restaurants, and attractions. The TAC attracts visitors and customers to the area, which boosts the economic activity and growth.

The reopening of the Grand Junction TAC is a positive sign that the IRS is committed to improving its service and outreach to taxpayers across the country. The IRS hopes that by reopening some of the closed offices, it can restore the trust and confidence of the public in the agency and its mission.
