Porsche MT Package Turns Carrera S Into Quiet Driver Hero
The 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S MT Package answers demand with a six-speed, rear-axle steering and centerlocks at near-Carrera T weight for North America only.
Porsche has put a six-speed manual back into the 2027 911 Carrera S for North America only, starting at $169,450 for the coupe after destination. The MT Package answers what the company calls overwhelming customer demand and loads the car with rear-axle steering, PASM Sport suspension and center-locking wheels that keep curb weight at 3,327 pounds.
That combination of S power and near-T mass is the piece most coverage underplays.
The Package That Arrived With the Pedal
The 473-horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six is unchanged from other Carrera S models. Power reaches only the rear wheels through the same six-speed manual used in the Carrera T. Zero to 60 mph takes 3.9 seconds, six-tenths slower than the PDK Carrera S, yet top speed still hits 191 mph.
Standard equipment stretches well past the gearbox. Buyers get rear-axle steering, PASM Sport suspension that drops ride height 10 mm, the Sport Chrono Package, unique exhaust tuning, a walnut shift knob, titanium exhaust outlets with black trim, a SportDesign front fascia and four-way Sport Seats Plus. Center-locking wheels appear for the first time on any Carrera S and cut more than 17 pounds versus the regular set.
| Model | Power | 0-60 mph | Curb weight (coupe) | Transmission |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carrera S MT Package | 473 hp | 3.9 s | 3,327 lb | 6-speed manual |
| Carrera S PDK | 473 hp | 3.3 s | higher | 8-speed PDK |
| Carrera T | 388 hp | 4.3 s | 3,316 lb | 6-speed manual |
Optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes and carbon-fiber folding lightweight buckets let owners chase even lower mass. The red rear “S” badge nods to a popular North American owner modification.
Why the Stick Returned Now
Manual gearboxes have thinned to roughly two dozen new models sold in the United States. Porsche’s own take rates remain high where the option exists: more than half of eligible GT3 buyers and over 80 percent of GT3 Touring customers still choose three pedals. The Carrera S lost its manual when the 992.2 generation arrived with PDK only. Customer feedback reversed that decision for the U.S. and Canadian markets.
Timo Resch, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, framed the move plainly in the official Porsche Cars North America announcement.
While some brands are abandoning the manual, we are proud to continue offering three pedals in a range of products that speaks to different use cases. Managing a clutch and shift lever isn’t for everyone, but for the drivers who want it there really is no substitute.
Resch, a lifelong driving enthusiast, added that the return personally excited him. The result expands Porsche’s North American three-pedal 911 count to seven variants.
- 911 Carrera T coupe
- 911 Carrera T Cabriolet
- 911 Carrera S with MT Package coupe
- 911 Carrera S with MT Package Cabriolet
- 911 GT3
- 911 GT3 with Touring Package
- 911 GT3 S/C
That depth has no real parallel among volume sports-car makers. Even as the full roster of 2026 manual cars still sold shrinks, Porsche keeps adding rather than subtracting.
Weight and Price Tell a Different Math
The coupe’s 3,327-pound curb weight sits just 11 pounds above a Carrera T coupe. Center-lock wheels and the rest of the package do the heavy lifting on mass control. Matching the same hardware on a PDK Carrera S would push its as-equipped price past the MT car’s starting figure, according to early analysis.
$167,100 is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the MT coupe before the $2,350 destination fee. With destination the coupe lands at $169,450. The Cabriolet starts at $181,000 MSRP or $183,350 delivered. A standard PDK Carrera S begins at $156,200 before fees.
- 473 hp from the twin-turbo flat-six
- 3,327 lb coupe curb weight
- 17+ lb saved by center-lock wheels alone
- 7 manual 911 variants now offered in North America
Orders opened immediately. Deliveries begin by the end of 2026. The car is unavailable outside North America.
How Buyers Can Still Make It Their Own
Seventeen exterior colors plus Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus programs cover the outside. More than 70 leather interior configurations handle the cabin. An optional exterior package adds black HD-Matrix Design headlights, Ceramica-finished wheels, red rear S badging, white PORSCHE lettering, body-color mirror housings and puddle lights that project the six-speed shift pattern onto the ground.
An interior package brings plaid Sport-Tex seat centers with Chalk stripes, matching stitching and belts, Ceramica trim and black brushed aluminum accents. Seat choices climb from the standard four-way Sport Seats Plus to 14-way, 18-way or carbon folding buckets. The 911 Carrera S with MT Package configurator page already lists the full suite.
On enthusiast forums and X, the reaction splits cleanly. Many call the car a perfect daily that finally marries usable power with engagement. Others note that Porsche options lists still inflate the final number quickly and that the rest of the world is left out. The NA-only limit stings hardest among European and Asian fans who watched the same demand play out elsewhere without result.
Where This Sits Among Other Holdouts
The move lands in a thinning field. Hypercar outliers such as the Hennessey Venom F5-M six-speed hypercar keep three pedals for pure theater, while BMW’s BMW M3 CS Handschalter last manual M3 marks an ending rather than an expansion. Porsche is doing the opposite inside its core sports-car line.
The Carrera S MT does not chase lap records the way a GT3 does. It does not chase minimalism the way a Carrera T does. It sits in the middle with more power than the T, more standard dynamics hardware than a base S, and the engagement both of those cars already offer. That middle ground is what makes the package land harder than the transmission alone suggests.
Orders Open and the Calendar Ahead
Porsche Centers across the United States and Canada are taking deposits now. First cars should reach customers before 2026 ends. Early demand will reveal how many buyers treat the MT Package as the default Carrera S rather than a niche add-on. Given existing take rates on other manual 911s, the share could surprise anyone who still believes the clutch pedal is finished.
The slower 0-60 time will matter little to the people who order one. They are buying the connection and the hardware that comes with it.
