Microsoft added three day-one titles to Xbox Game Pass in its August 2026 Wave 2, led by Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy on August 27 for Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. Vapor World: Over the Mind lands August 19 and Blood Dungeon on August 25 in the same tiers.

The wave also folds several games into Ultimate and PC from Premium while five titles, including The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Remastered Edition, leave on August 31. NBA 2K26 follows them out on September 6.

Taken together, the slate is a short, dense window: new launches, tier expansions, in-game perks and a firm exit date all stacked inside two weeks. Subscribers who track the catalog by calendar rather than by genre get a clear sequence of decisions.

The full late-August arrivals and their tiers

Xbox Wire posted the full Wave 2 lineup and blurbs on August 18. Several entries expand from Game Pass Premium into Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Handheld-optimized tags appear on a few for the portable form factor.

Game Date Tiers / notes

Vapor World: Over the Mind (Game Preview) August 19 Day one Ultimate / PC; Cloud, Console, PC

Relooted August 19 Premium to Ultimate / PC; Cloud, Series X|S, PC
Starsand Island August 20 Premium to Ultimate / PC; Cloud, Series X|S, PC
Aerial_Knight’s DropShot August 25 Premium to Ultimate / PC; Cloud, Series X|S, Handheld, PC
Blood Dungeon August 25 Day one Ultimate / PC; Cloud, Series X|S, PC
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy August 27 Day one Ultimate / PC; Cloud, Series X|S, Handheld, PC
Young Suns August 31 Premium to Ultimate / PC; Cloud, Console, PC
Shelldiver September 1 Ultimate, Premium, PC; Cloud, Console, PC

In-game perks also arrive for Once Human on August 25 and a World of Tanks Modern Armor XP bundle on September 1 across more tiers. The pattern keeps the catalog moving for every subscription level.

Handheld tags on Egging On, Aerial_Knight’s DropShot and Resonance point to the same portable push already visible in the device list. Cloud support runs across nearly the full wave, so the arrivals are not locked to a single box under the TV.

Resonance shifts Plague Tale toward direct combat

Asobo Studio’s prequel sets the story 15 years before A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem. Players control Sophia, raised in a Venice gang and now forced toward the Minotaur’s Island with her friend Leni. She hunts answers about fragmented visions and a buried curse tied to the Macula.

The studio rebuilt combat around her. Earlier games centered characters who avoided fights. Sophia is fast, precise and built for close-quarters one-against-many encounters, parries and fluid strikes. Traversal, deadly trials, light-based puzzles with a Minoan sphere, and a restless presence that hunts the player fill the island labyrinth.

Follow Sophia’s journey to the Minotaur’s Island, where she faces deadly trials, navigates treacherous trails, solves puzzles, all while fighting and staying one step ahead of the army chasing her. But the true challenge awaits, as the terrifying creature hidden behind the myth will soon resonate with her.

That is the official description. The game launches day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass for Xbox Series X|S, PC, cloud and handheld, with Xbox Play Anywhere support. It also hits PS5 and other PC storefronts the same day. Earlier Plague Tale entries found large audiences on the service; this one tests whether a more aggressive combat loop keeps that momentum.

Focus Entertainment publishes. Pre-order bonuses include a Heritage Pack with cosmetic items and an artbook for buyers outside the subscription.

The prequel framing matters for how the combat change lands. Players who know Innocence and Requiem already carry the Macula lore into Sophia’s island. The Minoan sphere puzzles and the creature behind the myth keep the series’ tension tools in place even as the fight cadence speeds up. Day-one placement on Ultimate and PC puts that experiment in front of the widest Game Pass audience on launch day rather than after a paid window.

Two more day ones bring platforming and survival

Vapor World: Over the Mind opens the day-one slate August 19 as a Game Preview. It is a narrative-driven souls-like platformer built around deflection combat. A boy descends into a shattered mind of sorrow and regret, hunting lost memories through a dark, beautiful world.

Blood Dungeon follows August 25 from the creators of Nidhogg. The 2D platforming survival game has players parkour through dungeons, kite monsters, gather blood and power-ups, then spend bones at a Bone Shop for permanent upgrades, arenas and skins. Quests unlock more content. Both titles sit on Ultimate and PC Game Pass from launch, giving subscribers immediate access without extra purchase.

  • Vapor World: Over the Mind, August 19 day one, souls-like platformer with deflection focus, Game Preview on Cloud/Console/PC.
  • Blood Dungeon, August 25 day one, 2D parkour survival from Nidhogg team, Cloud/Series X|S/PC.
  • Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, August 27 day one, action-adventure prequel with new combat, Cloud/Series X|S/Handheld/PC.

These three form the headline pull. They sit alongside the broader push for day one Game Pass releases that has become a core subscription pitch.

The spread across the week is deliberate on the page. Vapor World opens first as a Game Preview, Blood Dungeon lands midweek with its upgrade loop, and Resonance closes the day-one run with the known IP. Subscribers can sample the deflection platformer, then the parkour survival run, then the Plague Tale prequel without three launches colliding on a single morning.

Premium catch-ups add heists, racing and life sims

Several titles move from Premium into the higher tiers on the same days. Relooted is an Africanfuturist heist game about reclaiming artifacts from Western museums. Players recruit crew, plan routes and extract cargo. Starsand Island offers a calm pastoral loop with capybaras, fishing and a Moonlit Forest. Aerial_Knight’s DropShot is a high-speed stylized FPS racer starring Smoke Wallace, a purple-skinned shooter who fires from his fingertips after a radioactive dragon bite. Race, fight dragons and land stylishly.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect X brings its roguelite action and a free Platinum content update. Young Suns reaches 1.0 on August 31 as a narrative life sim after a Jupiter revolution, playable solo or with up to three friends. Shelldiver on September 1 is an incremental turtle fishing and shop game with biomes and upgrades. The mix ranges from tense action to cozy loops.

  • Relooted: crew recruitment, route planning, artifact extraction.
  • Starsand Island: pastoral days, capybaras, fishing, Moonlit Forest.
  • Aerial_Knight’s DropShot: stylized FPS racing, fingertip fire, dragon fights.
  • Young Suns: 1.0 narrative life sim, solo or up to three friends.
  • Shelldiver: turtle fishing, shops, biomes and upgrades.

That variety mirrors how Microsoft has layered the service tiers. Premium gets earlier or exclusive access on some catalog titles before they open wider, while Ultimate and PC keep the day-one prestige. It also sits next to broader Xbox growth bets on console and content that treat Game Pass as the central pipeline.

The catch-up titles do different work than the day ones. They reward Premium subscribers who already played them, then widen the same games for Ultimate and PC players who skipped the earlier tier. BlazBlue’s free Platinum update and Young Suns hitting 1.0 give those moves a content hook beyond a simple tier flip.

Five games leave August 31 and force a decision

The same announcement lists the exits. Another Crab’s Treasure, I Am Your Beast, Neon Abyss, One Lonely Outpost and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Remastered Edition all depart August 31 across their supported platforms. NBA 2K26 leaves September 6, two days after NBA 2K27 arrives.

  • Another Crab’s Treasure, Cloud, Console, PC
  • I Am Your Beast, Cloud, Console, PC
  • Neon Abyss, Cloud, Console, PC
  • One Lonely Outpost, Cloud, Console, PC
  • The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Remastered Edition, Cloud and Console

Xbox Wire notes the usual save-on-purchase offer before they go. For many subscribers the Remastered Witcher 3 has been a long-running anchor. Its exit, timed against the new Plague Tale prequel, creates a clear window: finish the open-world classic or jump into Sophia’s island trials. The smaller exits free slots while the day ones refill them.

Crowd conversation on X treated the day-one trio and the Witcher departure as the paired story. Players posted the list and asked which title they would start first. The pattern is familiar: big arrivals draw attention, departures create urgency, and the middle catalog fills quietly via tier moves.

NBA 2K26’s September 6 exit, set two days after NBA 2K27 arrives, follows a cleaner sports-calendar logic than the August 31 group. The five-game batch is the sharper deadline for anyone still mid-campaign in Witcher 3 or the smaller exits.

The August calendar stacks launches against exits

Read as a single schedule, Wave 2 is less a pile of names than a sequence of gates. Each date either adds a playable title, opens a tier, drops a perk or removes a game. The practical order for someone clearing backlog looks like this:

  1. August 18: Egging On expands; Xbox Wire posts the full Wave 2 list.
  2. August 19: Vapor World day one; BlazBlue Entropy Effect X and Relooted expand.
  3. August 20: Starsand Island expands into Ultimate and PC.
  4. August 25: Blood Dungeon day one; Aerial_Knight’s DropShot expands; Once Human perks land.
  5. August 27: Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy day one.
  6. August 31: Young Suns expands; five titles leave, including Witcher 3 Remastered.
  7. September 1: Shelldiver arrives; World of Tanks Modern Armor XP bundle lands.
  8. September 6: NBA 2K26 leaves after NBA 2K27’s arrival.

Resonance lands three days before the largest exit cluster. That gap is wide enough for a first session on Sophia’s island and narrow enough that Witcher 3 still feels urgent. Vapor World’s Game Preview start on August 19 gives the week an early hook before the heavier day ones arrive.

The calendar also separates the prestige launches from the quieter catalog work. Day ones hold the middle of the window. Premium expansions bookend them. Exits close the month. Perks fill the gaps so Essential and other tiers still see movement on the same dates.

Day one prestige still depends on tier plumbing

The headline trio only covers part of how the wave works. Day-one placement on Ultimate and PC is the visible pitch. The Premium-to-higher-tier moves are the plumbing that keeps lower and middle catalogs from freezing while the big launches take the spotlight.

Path Titles in this wave Subscriber effect
Day one Ultimate / PC Vapor World, Blood Dungeon, Resonance Immediate access, no extra purchase
Premium into Ultimate / PC Egging On, BlazBlue, Relooted, Starsand Island, Aerial_Knight’s DropShot, Young Suns Wider audience after earlier Premium window
Multi-tier arrival Shelldiver Ultimate, Premium and PC from day one of its listing
In-game perks Once Human, World of Tanks Modern Armor Value on August 25 and September 1 across more tiers

That split lets Microsoft argue two points at once. Ultimate and PC still receive the launch-day prestige titles that define the service in marketing. Premium still functions as an earlier lane for selected catalog games before those same games open wider. Essential is not left without a date on the sheet because the Once Human and World of Tanks drops land on the same calendar.

Handheld and cloud tags extend the same logic to devices. A Resonance session on handheld or a Vapor World run on cloud does not require the subscriber to free console storage on day one. The tier story and the device story move together through the wave.

What the wave means for different subscribers

Ultimate and PC Game Pass members get the three day ones immediately and the Premium expansions soon after. Premium holders already had access to several of the catch-up titles and now see them open wider. Essential gets the in-game benefits on Once Human and World of Tanks. Cloud and handheld tags widen the devices that can run the new arrivals without downloads.

The second-order effect sits in the rhythm itself. Day-one multiplats like Resonance keep the service competitive with other subscriptions that also chase launch windows. A PS Plus August day-one approach shows the same tactic on the other side. At the same time the exits prevent the library from stagnating. Subscribers who treat Game Pass as a permanent collection feel the churn; those who treat it as a rotating queue treat the August 31 deadline as a natural end point.

Asobo’s combat rethink on a known IP is the clearest experiment. If the more aggressive loop lands with the same audience that loved the stealth-and-rats earlier games, it validates day-one placement for mid-tier narrative titles. If it splits that audience, the next Plague Tale decision may look different. Either way the August 27 launch date is locked and the games are already listed.

Vapor World opens tomorrow for Ultimate and PC players. Blood Dungeon and Resonance follow within the next two weeks. The leaving list sits three days after Resonance lands. That is the practical calendar subscribers now work from.
