Play! Pokémon set the 2026 Worlds Preview Show for Friday, August 21 at 1:00 p.m. PDT on the official Pokémon Twitch channel and Play! Pokémon YouTube, one week before competitors crown new champions in San Francisco.

The stream delivers strategy talk, top moments from the season, competitor interviews and a special Pokémon Pokopia announcement tied to PokémonXP and Worlds. It also teases the year’s plush and closes with a listening party for the 2026 Worlds soundtrack.

Friday’s full stream package

Hosts Adam Watson (@scarzig) and Rachel “Seltzer” Quirico (@SeltzerPlease) lead the desk. Game experts Charlie Merriman (@chazingdra) for VGC, Joe Bernard (@omni_joe) for TCG, Will Dunphey (@speediestchief2) for GO and Joshua “ZOINKS” Hiebert (@ZOINKScasts) for UNITE round out the panel.

Viewers get roundtable discussion, the top three competitive moments from each game this year, and direct interviews. The show ends on lighter notes with the plush reveal and soundtrack session. Submit questions with #Worlds26Preview for a shot at airtime.

  • In-depth competitor interviews across all four titles
  • Roundtables on current strategies and the new VGC format
  • Season highlight reels of the three biggest moments per game
  • Worlds plush first look plus full soundtrack listening party
  • Special Pokémon Pokopia announcement for XP and Worlds

The official preview show announcement frames the hour as both scouting tool and mood-setter before the August 28-30 main event.

The four competitors sitting for interviews

Four standout players walk viewers through their games. Francesco Pio Pero arrives as the fresh 2026 North America International Championships VGC Masters champion, his first major International title, after also taking third at the Europe International Championships earlier in the season. Liam Halliburton brings a strong TCG Masters résumé that includes a Pittsburgh Regional title, fourth at EUIC and consistent deep runs. Beelzeboy, the 2025 Pokémon GO World Champion from India now with S8UL Esports, covers the GO side. Overlord represents UNITE.

Game Interview guest Notable 2025-26 mark
VGC Francesco Pio Pero 2026 NAIC Masters champion
TCG Liam Halliburton Pittsburgh Regional champion, EUIC 4th
GO Beelzeboy 2025 World Champion
UNITE Overlord Featured expert

These conversations give the meta concrete faces rather than abstract tier lists.

Casters locked for the San Francisco weekend

The preview also rolls out the full broadcast teams that will call matches, handle debriefs and run post-game interviews once play begins at Moscone Center.

VGC casters include Rosemary Kelley, Aaron Zheng, Sierra Dawn, Lee Provost, Evan Latt, Scott Glaza and Ben Kyriakou. TCG brings Chip Richey, Kyle Sucevich, Emily Forman, Ethan Hegyi, Joe Bernard, Ross Gilbert and Pablo Meza. GO features Amanda “lundberger” Lundberg, Will Dunphey, Steven “2OButters” Sanders, Caleb Peng, Labhaoisa Akcoș-Cromie and John “HomeSliceHenry” Gardner. UNITE lists Jake “Spragels” Sprague, Kirk “DoobSnax” Dubé, Joshua “ZOINKS” Hiebert, Evan “Wonderchef” Hashimoto, Kelly “Kelosaurus” Wilson, Danelie Purdue and Sophia “Sophchan” de Ipanema.

Many of the same voices appear on the preview desk, so Friday doubles as a warm-up for the three-day production that streams live starting each morning of the event.

San Francisco returns a decade later, now with an arena

Worlds last visited San Francisco in 2016 at the Marriott Marquis. The 2026 edition moves into the much larger Moscone Center for the bulk of competition and sends Championship Sunday finals to the Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors. Official materials note the arena is three times the size of last year’s finals venue.

Alongside the competitive event sits the first PokémonXP, a full fan celebration with exhibits, partners including LEGO, Pokémon Center pop-ups, exclusive merch such as a celebratory Pikachu plush, and a stamped Rayquaza card for attendees. Multi-day and single-day passes have circulated in the $70-$180 range depending on age and whether the arena experience is included. The Moscone Center event page positions the weekend as both pinnacle competition and community gathering.

Competitors chase a combined prize pool of more than $2 million across titles. VGC itself shifts permanently onto Pokémon Champions this season, ending the annual main-series rotation that defined the format through 2025.

Huh. There’s going to be a Pokémon Pokopia announcement for Worlds and XP during the Worlds Preview stream on Friday. Very curious.

Joe Merrick of SerebiiNet wrote that line to more than 2,400 likes, capturing the mix of competitive focus and surprise content that now defines the run-up.

Where Pokopia fits the weekend

Pokémon Pokopia launched March 5, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2 as a life-simulation title. Players control a Ditto transformed into a human who builds a town with Pokémon help, crafts, gardens, and cooperates with up to three others. The Pokémon Pokopia life-simulation trailer introduced characters such as Professor Tangrowth, Peakychu and Mosslax.

  • Pokémon Pokopia: life-sim on Switch 2 in which a human-form Ditto develops a shared town with visiting Pokémon through crafting, requests and multiplayer.

The special announcement during the preview is billed specifically for PokémonXP and 2026 Worlds. Community reaction treated the drop as the element most likely to pull casual viewers onto a stream that otherwise serves hardcore qualifiers. That crossover is the new pattern: competitive crowning and fan festival share the same three days and the same broadcast window.

How the event has scaled since the early hotel years

The championships began in 2004 with TCG only. Video game competition joined in 2008. GO and UNITE arrived later. Locations stayed mostly North American hotels and convention centers until London 2022 and Yokohama 2023. Hawaii 2024 and Anaheim 2025 kept the U.S. focus. San Francisco 2026 is the clearest jump yet in physical footprint.

Year Primary venue City Notes
2016 San Francisco Marriott Marquis San Francisco Previous SF visit
2024 Hawaiʻi Convention Center Honolulu Return to Hawaii
2025 Anaheim Convention Center Anaheim Last year
2026 Moscone Center + Chase Center San Francisco First XP, arena finals, Champions VGC

Friday’s preview is the established ritual that now also carries product news and soundtrack premieres. Bookmark the 2026 Pokémon World Championships site for schedules, competitor info and broadcast links once the main event opens August 28.

The stream goes live in three days. The trophy waits in San Francisco a week after that.
