GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A Colorado Springs teenager is in custody after allegedly stealing a pizza delivery driver’s car. The swift response from authorities, aided by tracking technology, led to the teen’s arrest.
Car Stolen During Pizza Delivery
On March 6, a 2012 Hyundai Tucson was reported stolen while its owner was delivering pizza near Highway 24 in Manitou Springs. The driver had left the car running while at the customer’s door, creating an opportunity for the theft.
LoJack System Aids Officers in Recovery
The vehicle was equipped with a LoJack tracking system, allowing police to trace its location. Officers found the car parked in the lot of Whitney Young Apartments. Detectives with the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit worked alongside the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) to investigate.
Suspect Attempts to Flee
Authorities spotted a young male leaving the apartment complex and heading southbound onto El Morro Road. Despite repeated commands to surrender, the suspect attempted to flee but was ultimately apprehended.
Charges and Legal Consequences
The teen was found with the car keys in his possession and now faces multiple charges, including:
- Second-degree motor vehicle theft
- Felony eluding
- Obstruction
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details regarding the suspect’s identity due to his minor status.
