Grand Valley Transit Offers Free Rides in December to Keep Holiday Spirits High
Grand Valley Transit (GVT) is spreading holiday cheer in Grand Junction by offering free bus fares on Fridays and Saturdays throughout December. The initiative aims to make transportation accessible, allowing residents to stay connected with loved ones, complete holiday shopping, and explore the city stress-free.
A Community-Centered Initiative
Tara Flaharty, Mesa County’s mobility manager, highlighted the importance of public transportation for those who cannot drive.
“About 30% of the population can’t drive a vehicle,” Flaharty said. “Getting everybody out and showing them different forms of mobility is really important.”
The promotion covers all fixed routes, which span from Fruita to Palisade and include 11 routes in total.
Free Rides Beyond the Holidays
This isn’t the first time GVT has implemented free fare days. Similar programs in July and August focused on reducing carbon emissions, while November’s free fares honored veterans.
By continuing these initiatives, GVT not only supports sustainable travel but also strengthens the community’s connection during key times of the year.
