ACPL Unveils ‘The Studio’ at Main Library Branch

The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) has officially opened The Studio, transforming a former café space into a cutting-edge creative hub. The launch coincided with National Inventors Day, underscoring the library’s commitment to fostering innovation and artistic exploration in the community.

A Space for Creativity and Innovation

Previously occupied by a Dunkin’ Donuts, the newly revamped area now houses an array of tools and resources aimed at creators of all kinds. Library officials say The Studio offers expanded programming space, a state-of-the-art podcast booth, and upgraded equipment tailored for content creation.

This addition builds upon ACPL’s broader efforts to support creativity, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Part of a Larger Transformation

Last year, ACPL rebranded its system-wide maker spaces as The Studios, a move designed to unify and enhance these spaces across multiple library locations. Officials describe them as places for:

  • Audiovisual content creation
  • Entrepreneurial and technological discovery
  • Artistic expression and innovation

ACPL Director Susan Baier emphasized the importance of these spaces, stating, “The Studios give our community members the tools to turn their ideas into reality, whether it’s a podcast, a new product prototype, or digital artwork.”

Funding and Strategic Growth

The Studio is part of ACPL’s 2024-2028 strategic plan, Allen County’s Window to Lifelong Learning and Discovery. This long-term initiative aims to modernize the library’s offerings, making it a vital resource for evolving educational and creative needs.

The project is funded through a mix of library operating dollars and grant funding from the Don Wood Foundation, ensuring sustainability without burdening taxpayers.

What’s Next for ACPL?

With The Studio now open, ACPL plans to expand its programming, offering workshops, guest speakers, and hands-on learning opportunities. The library encourages residents to explore the space, test out its resources, and participate in upcoming events.
