STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – A 25-year-old man from Angola, Indiana, was arrested following a shooting incident on Saturday evening in rural York Township, Steuben County.
Incident Report and Initial Response
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 6:30 p.m. after a woman reported being shot at while inside her vehicle. The alleged shooting occurred at a home near the intersection of County Road 850 East and Metz Road.
Deputies arriving at the scene located the woman, who was unharmed but found in a vehicle showing damage consistent with gunfire. She identified the shooter as Skylar Alan Wilber, 25, of Angola, Indiana.
Allegations and Investigation
According to the victim, Wilber had asked her for a ride. Upon her arrival at the home, he allegedly exited the house visibly upset and discharged a firearm at her vehicle. The woman fled the scene and contacted law enforcement.
Detectives and deputies secured a search warrant for the residence, prompting the activation of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Special Response Tactical Team (SRT) to safely execute the warrant.
Arrest and Search Results
Before the warrant was served, Wilber exited the home and surrendered peacefully around 8 p.m. A subsequent search of the residence uncovered suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and evidence confirming a firearm discharge.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Wilber was taken into custody and booked into the Steuben County Jail on preliminary charges of:
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
- Possession of marijuana
- Possession of paraphernalia
The investigation remains active under the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, with support from multiple agencies, including the Orland Town Marshal’s Office, Hamilton Town Marshal’s Office, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, and the Auburn Police Emergency Response Tactical Team.
