Caprock Academy Hockey Team Hosts Toy Drive During Home Opener

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The Caprock Academy Ice Hockey Team celebrated the holiday season with a heartwarming gesture during their men’s varsity home opener at River City Sportsplex on Friday. In a spirited matchup against Pueblo County, the team organized a toy drive to support children in need within the local community.

Giving Back Through Hockey

The team encouraged fans to bring new, unwrapped toys or gift cards to the game. All donations collected will benefit Mesa County Foster Care and Kinship, an organization dedicated to supporting foster children and their families during the holidays.

To make the event even more engaging, donors were entered into a drawing for a chance to enjoy an upgraded experience in the Sportsplex’s new premium seats.

Building Character On and Off the Ice

Michael Williams, Assistant Coach of Caprock Hockey, expressed pride in the team’s enthusiasm for the initiative.

“They’ve all embraced it. It’s really, really nice to see the boys come together,” Williams said. “I think they see NHL players talk about community and charity events, and so I think they kind of feel special that they get to do it.”

The team’s involvement highlights the importance of giving back and fostering a sense of community among the players and their supporters.

More to Come This Season

The toy drive marks the first of many community-focused promotions the team has planned for the 2024-2025 season. With a focus on both athletic excellence and social responsibility, the Caprock Academy Ice Hockey Team is setting an inspiring example for how sports can unite and uplift a community.
