The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) earned four out of ten prestigious awards at the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) annual recognition luncheon last week, a remarkable achievement for the department.
Recognition for Excellence in Transportation
CDOT was honored with multiple awards, including:
- Colorado Employer of the Year
- Colorado Person of the Year
- Colorado Innovative Transportation Solution (twice)
The awards were presented to acknowledge specific initiatives and achievements that have greatly impacted Colorado’s transportation system, showcasing CDOT’s commitment to innovation and excellence.
Key Projects Highlighted in Award Wins
The awards highlight key projects that have demonstrated CDOT’s dedication to improving infrastructure and ensuring safety for Coloradans. One notable recipient was the US 50 Blue Mesa Reservoir bridge emergency repair project, which played a critical role in maintaining safe passage across important transportation routes. The work on these repairs was completed following urgent inspections after cracks were discovered in steel girders of the Middle and Lake Fork bridges.
Shoshana Lew, the Executive Director of CDOT, celebrated these accomplishments, stating, “Both the Centerra-Loveland Mobility Hub and the US 50 emergency bridge repair are examples of innovation, partnership and projects that deliver tangible and needed results for Colorado communities.”
Emergency Bridge Repairs: A Critical Achievement
In spring 2024, during a routine inspection, CDOT officials identified a crack in a steel girder of the Middle and Lake Fork bridges. This discovery led to swift and necessary repairs to ensure the safety of drivers in the area. The Middle Bridge repairs started in May and were completed by October 16, 2024. Similarly, the repairs to the Lake Fork Bridge were finalized on December 6, 2024, marking a significant milestone in preserving the integrity of these vital transportation routes.
CDOT’s Ongoing Commitment to Innovation
The awards reflect CDOT’s ongoing efforts to implement cutting-edge solutions and foster partnerships that address transportation challenges in the state. The recognition from WTS demonstrates the department’s consistent dedication to not only improving transportation infrastructure but also supporting the communities it serves.
With these accolades, CDOT remains at the forefront of transportation innovation in Colorado, setting a high bar for future infrastructure projects.
