Hundreds Graduate at Colorado Mesa University Winter Commencement

Over 800 students proudly crossed the stage at Colorado Mesa University’s winter commencement, held in the bustling Brownson Arena. With families and friends cheering them on, these graduates celebrated years of hard work and determination.

“It feels like a weight off my shoulders,” said Mica Jenrette, now a bachelor of science graduate in occupational therapy. “I feel thrilled to take the next steps. I am so blessed to be here.”

Stories of Triumph and Perseverance

For many graduates, the journey was anything but smooth. The resilience they displayed was a testament to their dedication.

Take Maddison Burge, for instance. She began her nursing education when her daughter was just seven weeks old. “If I can do it, anybody can,” she said, holding her degree in nursing with pride.

Others, like Mathias Mulumba, described the day as surreal. “It was an honor of the highest degree,” he shared. “I never dreamed of being where I am today. To see this happening—I am very honored and humbled.”

The Ceremony in Full Swing

From the moment graduates entered Brownson Arena, emotions were high. Caps and gowns symbolized years of late nights, early mornings, and countless sacrifices.

The ceremony included:

  • A heartfelt speech by university president John Marshall.
  • Each graduate receiving their diploma with a firm handshake and a beaming smile.
  • Families capturing moments on their phones, tears of pride shining in their eyes.

The graduates didn’t just walk the stage; they walked into the next chapter of their lives, a chapter full of possibilities.

A Shared Celebration

For some, the journey wasn’t taken alone. Friends, classmates, and loved ones played key roles in making this achievement possible.

“There were many unexpected things I could not plan for,” Jenrette admitted. “But my colleagues, classmates, family, and friends were really great through all of it.”

Even in moments of doubt, support made all the difference. “I cannot believe I made it here,” Burge reflected. “It was a really long road. I wanted to give up so many times.”

A Tradition That Unites

The ceremony closed with a powerful tradition: the turning of the tassels and the Colorado Mesa University Fight Song. As the notes echoed through the arena, a sea of proud graduates looked forward to what comes next.

Whether earning an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree, these students walked away with more than a diploma. They left with a sense of achievement that will carry them into their future.
