King Soopers Strike Ends as Union Reaches Temporary Agreement

The nearly two-week-long strike of King Soopers workers has officially ended after the grocery chain and UFCW Local 7 reached a temporary agreement. The deal secures health care benefits for employees and initiates a 100-day period of peaceful negotiations.

Workers Return as Picket Lines Halt

As part of the return-to-work agreement, the union ceased all picket lines on February 17 at midnight. The temporary agreement ensures that workers continue receiving health care benefits while negotiations proceed.

According to UFCW Local 7, King Soopers’ last and final offer from January 16 is no longer considered the final proposal, signaling room for further discussions and potential improvements in labor conditions.

Statements from Leadership

Joe Kelley, President of King Soopers, expressed optimism about reaching a fair settlement: “Our focus remains on reaching a fair agreement that honors their hard work.”

On the other side, Kim Cordova, President of UFCW Local 7, reinforced the union’s commitment to fighting for fair working conditions. “We will go back to the bargaining table and continue our fight for a fair union contract for us, our customers, and the communities we serve.”

What Comes Next?

The 100-day negotiation period will be a critical time for both sides to reach a sustainable contract. While the temporary agreement has eased immediate tensions, the future remains uncertain, and workers are hopeful for a long-term resolution that meets their needs.
