Lava Storm 5G: A Budget Smartphone with High-End Features

Lava, a domestic smartphone brand in India, has launched its latest device, the Storm 5G, on December 21, 2023. The phone is set to hit the market on December 28, 2023, available exclusively on Amazon.in and Lava’s e-store. Priced at an introductory offer of Rs 11,999, the Storm 5G aims to offer an immersive experience to users, coupled with enticing bank offers.

What makes the Storm 5G stand out?

The Storm 5G is one of the most affordable 5G smartphones in India, with a price tag of less than Rs 15,000. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC, which is a 6nm chipset with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. The phone also comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 1TB via a microSD card slot.

The Storm 5G boasts a 6.78-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display has a punch-hole cutout for the 16MP front-facing camera, which supports face unlock and screen flash. The back of the phone houses a dual rear camera unit, consisting of a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The camera features include night mode, portrait mode, HDR, panorama, and AI scene detection.

The Storm 5G runs on Android 13, which is the latest version of the operating system. It also supports dual SIM, dual VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which also doubles as a power button. The phone is backed by a 5,000mAh battery, which supports up to 33W fast charging.

How does the Storm 5G compare with other 5G phones?

The Storm 5G is not the first 5G phone from Lava, as the company had launched the Blaze 2 5G in November 2023. The Blaze 2 5G is priced at Rs 9,999 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model, and Rs 10,999 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model. The Blaze 2 5G has a 6.56-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 SoC, a 50MP + 8MP dual rear camera, an 8MP selfie camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging.

The Storm 5G is clearly an upgrade over the Blaze 2 5G, as it has a bigger and better display, a more powerful processor, more RAM and storage, a higher-resolution selfie camera, and a faster charging speed. The Storm 5G also has some advantages over other 5G phones in the same price range, such as the Realme 9 5G, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 5G, and the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G. Some of these advantages are:

  • The Storm 5G has the largest display among the four phones, with a 6.78-inch screen size. The other three phones have 6.5-inch screens.
  • The Storm 5G has the highest refresh rate among the four phones, with a 120Hz rate. The other three phones have 90Hz refresh rates.
  • The Storm 5G has the most RAM among the four phones, with 8GB of RAM. The other three phones have 6GB of RAM.
  • The Storm 5G has the most storage among the four phones, with 128GB of internal memory. The other three phones have 64GB of internal memory.
  • The Storm 5G has the highest-resolution front camera among the four phones, with a 16MP sensor. The other three phones have 8MP sensors.

The Storm 5G also comes with some attractive bank offers, such as:
