What’s Next After Nisley Elementary’s Closure?

Grand Junction, Colo. (KJCT) – The impending closure of Nisley Elementary has left students, teachers, and families heartbroken as the school approaches its final year of operation. The decision to shutter the school was challenging for everyone involved, reflecting deep consideration of its impact on the community.

Emotional Farewell

For educators like Jordan Pritchard, a third-grade teacher, the closure marks the end of an era. “Oh, my gosh. I will miss this school and these kids so much,” Pritchard shared.

Her colleague, Aubrie Swezey, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Everything I have learned, I have learned how to do the Nisley way.”

Despite their sadness, teachers are focusing on providing support and positivity for their students during the transition. “Change is hard, but change is also good,” Pritchard added.

Preparing for the Transition

The school district now faces the significant task of redrawing school boundaries and facilitating the relocation of students and staff. Superintendent Dr. Brian Hill emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth transition.

“Just focusing on how we support the students, families, and staff with the transition at the school that is closing to ensure we can help them find positions elsewhere in the district,” Hill stated.

The Bigger Picture

While the closure of Nisley Elementary is an emotional moment for the community, district officials aim to frame this change as an opportunity for growth and improvement in the overall education system.

As students and teachers prepare to bid farewell to their beloved school, the focus remains on fostering resilience and optimism.
