MESA, Colo. – For many kids on winter break, there’s no better place to be than Powderhorn Ski Resort. This year’s “12 Days of Christmas” event has been keeping families entertained with activities ranging from scavenger hunts to fireworks, adding a festive twist to the holiday season.
Festive Activities Keep Kids Busy
The annual celebration is a favorite among guests, offering free activities for kids to enjoy between their time on the slopes. According to Ryan Robinson, a spokesperson for Powderhorn, the event aims to bring families together during the holiday season.
“It’s totally free to participate, and it gets families involved,” Robinson said.
This year’s activities have included:
- Cookie decorating.
- Social media giveaways.
- Scavenger hunts with daily themes.
Saturday’s theme, for example, was “on the 5th day of Christmas Powderhorn gave to me… 5 pairs of socks hanging from the tree!” Participants were challenged to find socks hidden around the slopes in a fun and engaging scavenger hunt.
A Parade of Lights and Fireworks
The highlight of the event comes during the final days. On New Year’s Eve, Powderhorn hosts its Torchlight Parade, where staff ski down the mountain carrying flaming torches, creating a stunning visual display.
- Fireworks light up the sky as the parade concludes.
- A children’s torchlight parade lets young skiers join in the fun with glowsticks, adding a magical touch for families.
Robinson calls the New Year’s Eve celebration one of his favorite parts of the event.
The Final Day’s Big Surprise
The 12th and final day of the celebration is all about mystery and excitement. Skiers are invited to search for a hidden present buried beneath an aspen tree. The reward? A coveted season pass for the lucky winner who discovers the gift.
This cherished tradition not only celebrates the holiday spirit but also brings the local community closer together, making Powderhorn a hub of festive cheer.
