United Way of Allen County Launches Annual Community Food Drive

The United Way of Allen County has officially launched its annual Community Food Drive, aimed at supporting local food banks and feeding those in need. This year’s drive kicked off on Monday, February 18, with a goal to surpass last year’s donation total of nearly 7,000 pounds of food.

Partnering to Make an Impact

The drive will benefit several local organizations, including Associated Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County, Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, and Miss Virginia’s Food Pantry. In a new collaboration this year, United Way is teaming up with Salsa Grille to make donating easier for the community.

Four Salsa Grille locations across the area will serve as drop-off points for non-perishable food items:

  • Salsa Grille North, 7755 Coldwater Rd
  • Salsa Grille Northeast, 5709 YMCA Pk. Dr. W.
  • Salsa Grille Coventry, 5735 Falls Dr.
  • Salsa Grille Taqueria, 2031 Broadway

What’s Needed

The United Way is asking for a range of food donations, with priority given to canned meats, peanut butter, and boxed dinners. These essential items will help stock the shelves of local food pantries, which often see a depletion of supplies after the holiday season.

The full list of needed items is available on the United Way’s website, allowing donors to contribute in a meaningful way to the fight against food insecurity.

A Community United for a Common Cause

Brandi Buck, Executive Director of United Way of Allen County, emphasized that food banks are often low on supplies following the holidays, making community efforts like this food drive crucial.

“We’re hoping to make a significant impact and meet the growing needs in our community,” Buck said. She also noted that in addition to food donations, monetary contributions are welcome. Donations can be made online or via text by sending FOOD25 to 41444.

The drive is set to end on March 4, with the hope of reaching a new record in food donations.
