Two Hospitalized, Suspect Barricaded After Shooting Inside Delta Home

A sleepy Sunday morning in Delta, Colorado was shattered by gunfire—and by nightfall, a neighborhood was blocked off, two people were in the hospital, and a gunman remained holed up inside a home.

Police say the shooting appears to be targeted, not random. But for the families nearby, that didn’t make the scene any less terrifying.

Shooting Unfolds on G96 Lane

It was just after 8:40 a.m. on June 22 when Delta Police received the first emergency call. Shots had been fired inside a home on the 1500 block of G96 Lane. Two people were reportedly injured.

Officers rushed to the scene.

When they arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were alive—barely. First responders loaded them into ambulances and raced them to Delta Health hospital.

As of late Sunday evening, their conditions remain undisclosed. Police are not confirming their identities yet, citing the ongoing nature of the case.

Suspect Still Inside, Armed and Uncooperative

Police quickly determined that the suspected shooter had not fled.

In fact, they were still inside the house.

Officials say the individual—whose name has not been released—barricaded themselves inside the property shortly after the shooting. Officers attempted to make contact. They tried phone calls, loudspeaker announcements, and even knocking.

No response.

Delta Police, with assistance from tactical units, surrounded the home. But there’s been no sign of a peaceful surrender just yet.

“We’re taking every step to ensure the safety of officers, the community, and the suspect themselves,” said a department spokesperson.

What We Know—And Don’t Know

As of now, the motive remains unclear. Police have not confirmed the relationship between the suspect and the victims. They also haven’t said whether the victims were shot inside the home or just outside it.

Here’s what’s confirmed:

  • The shooting occurred around 8:42 a.m.

  • It happened at 1572 G96 Lane, Delta

  • Two victims were hospitalized with gunshot wounds

  • The suspect is barricaded inside the residence

  • No other injuries have been reported

  • Law enforcement does not believe the public is in danger

The “isolated incident” language from Delta PD is meant to calm fears. But residents in the area said they were shaken nonetheless.

One woman, who lives two houses down, described hearing yelling followed by what she thought was a car backfiring. Then came the sirens.

“I peeked outside, saw all the flashing lights, and I knew something bad had happened,” she said.

Police Maintain Perimeter, Call in Backup

By mid-morning, the street was blocked off. Police tape fluttered in the breeze as armed officers established a safety perimeter.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office assisted, along with EMS personnel stationed nearby in case of further injury. The area remained under lockdown for much of the afternoon.

Officers reportedly tried multiple times to communicate with the suspect throughout the day, but the house remained quiet. A negotiator was eventually brought in.

No forced entry has been attempted—yet.

“It’s a delicate situation,” said one law enforcement source. “This isn’t TV. You don’t just kick in the door. You wait. You listen. You de-escalate.”

Community Watches and Waits

Word spread quickly around Delta. The town, known for its quiet pace and tight-knit vibe, doesn’t often see this kind of thing.

Residents gathered in small groups outside the taped-off zone. Some checked their phones for updates. Others just watched, arms crossed, unsure what to say.

“Stuff like this just doesn’t happen here,” one longtime resident told reporters. “Or if it does, you never hear about it. Not like this.”

The home itself is part of a residential pocket just off Highway 50—far from downtown, but still well within the city’s footprint. It’s not known for crime or conflict.

No Official Updates on Victim Status

By Sunday night, Delta Health had not released the medical status of the two victims. Police confirmed they were alive when transported, but that’s where the official information ends.

Both are being treated under police watch. Whether one or both may have known the suspect remains a key focus of the investigation.

Officials say updates on their condition, and the situation inside the barricaded home, may come sometime Monday.

But for now, silence hangs over G96 Lane.
