Two 15-Year-Olds Arrested After Group Assault on Man in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A group attack in broad daylight has led to the arrest of two teens after an adult man was reportedly assaulted near the intersection of North 7th Street and Bunting Avenue on Friday afternoon.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD), the assault occurred around 4:15 p.m. on July 18, when a man walking south on 7th Street was approached and surrounded by a group of juveniles.

Shortly after surrounding him, the group allegedly began physically assaulting the man. As the victim tried to defend himself, police say one of the teens threatened to brandish a firearm, escalating the already tense situation into a case of felony menacing.

Officers respond swiftly

Police officers were dispatched to the scene and quickly located the group of juveniles believed to be involved. Two 15-year-olds were taken into custody.

  • One teen was charged with Third Degree Assault and Felony Menacing.

  • The second teen faces those same charges plus Obstruction.

Due to their age, the identities of the juveniles have not been released.

“This is shocking,” said one resident who lives a block away. “You don’t expect to hear about something like this happening in the middle of the day. I walk my kids down that street all the time.”

The Grand Junction Police Department is continuing its investigation and asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
