Gingerbread Tradition Brings Holiday Cheer to Community Hospital

Community Hospital in Grand Junction has once again partnered with the Palisade Chamber of Commerce to brighten the holiday season for patients and visitors. This heartfelt tradition, which began in 2016, involves showcasing gingerbread houses donated by Grand Valley residents.

Sweet Relief for Patients and Families

Holidays can be tough for those spending time in the hospital, either as patients or supporting loved ones. The annual gingerbread house display serves as a much-needed source of joy.

“Being in the hospital or having a loved one here during the holidays is really challenging,” said Karen Martsolf of Community Hospital. “This brings a little bit of joy and alleviates some of that stress.”

Each gingerbread house, varying in size, shape, and design, tells a unique story of creativity and care.

The Community’s Role

The gingerbread creations come from participants in the Palisade Olde Fashion Christmas competition. These works of art are judged in various categories, such as age groups and difficulty levels, before being shared with the hospital.

Residents of Grand Valley continue to play a vital role in this tradition, contributing their time and talent to spread holiday cheer.
