DEFIANCE, Ohio (WTVG) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced a major investment by First Quality Tissue Midwest, a manufacturer specializing in paper, packaging, and hygiene products. The company plans to invest $984 million in a new production facility in Defiance, bringing more than 400 new jobs to the region.
A Massive Investment in Defiance
The upcoming 1.6 million square-foot facility will be built on a 1,000-acre site within the city’s Baltimore Avenue Industrial Corridor. This marks one of the largest investments in the area’s history, with significant backing from the All Ohio Future Fund.
According to Governor DeWine, the fund was designed to help attract established companies ready to launch major projects in Ohio. “Ohio’s work to proactively prepare this Defiance County site is a win-win for Ohio, Defiance County, and First Quality Tissue,” he said.
Competition and Incentives
Ohio was in the running against multiple states to secure the facility. To support the project, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 1.740%, 10-year tax credit on February 25. This incentive aims to solidify the company’s commitment to the state while boosting local employment.
What This Means for the Region
- $984 million investment: A significant boost to Ohio’s economy.
- 400+ new jobs: Opportunities in production, logistics, and management.
- 1.6 million square-foot facility: The largest of its kind in the region.
- 2023 approval, 2032 completion: The facility is expected to be operational by 2032.
With this development, Defiance is set to become a key player in the paper and hygiene product manufacturing sector, reinforcing Ohio’s status as a prime location for industrial growth.
