Fort Wayne’s “Unity Lighting” Event Shines Bright for the Community

The City of Fort Wayne and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) of Greater Fort Wayne joined hands for the second annual “Unity Lighting” event, bringing light, joy, and support to the community. The event featured live performances, giveaways, and a shared spirit of togetherness.

A Night of Celebration and Service

The highlight of the evening was the illumination of the Unity display, a symbolic gesture underscoring collective community strength. Alongside the lighting, attendees enjoyed dance performances, live music, and a raffle that kept spirits high throughout the night.

In addition to the festivities, organizers made a tangible impact by distributing 100 Thanksgiving baskets. Tamesha Fikes, Vice President of the NPHC, emphasized the importance of giving back, particularly in areas with limited access to essential resources.

“We just want to do some type of service to give back to this community,” Fikes said, noting the scarcity of grocery stores in the neighborhood.

More Than an Event: A Message of Unity

The Unity Lighting represents more than just a seasonal celebration. For Fikes and the event’s organizers, it’s about fostering a sense of togetherness and addressing local needs. Leaders even extended their generosity to people driving past the event, ensuring as many residents as possible felt included.

“Unity is all of us coming together as a community and looking out for each other in the neighborhood,” Fikes explained.

Building a Tradition of Support

This second annual event underscores Fort Wayne’s commitment to strengthening community ties and creating opportunities for neighbors to connect. With initiatives like the Unity Lighting, city officials and organizations aim to establish lasting traditions that inspire and uplift residents.
