Grand Junction Fire Department Expands Fleet to Enhance Community Safety

The Grand Junction Fire Department has unveiled three new additions to its fleet, enhancing its capacity to respond to emergencies across diverse terrains and situations. These vehicles, designed with specific local needs in mind, represent a significant investment in public safety and preparedness.

Introducing Tower 6: A High-Tech Solution for Urban Fires

One of the standout additions is Tower 6, a state-of-the-art platform fire truck engineered to handle fires in buildings of all sizes. Costing approximately $1.7 million, this advanced vehicle provides the department with improved reach and functionality for urban firefighting scenarios.

The platform design allows for greater flexibility in accessing difficult locations, such as high-rise buildings or complex structures.

Brush 5: Built for Colorado’s Wildfires

In a region prone to wildfires, having the right equipment is critical. Brush 5, another new addition, is purpose-built to navigate the rugged terrains of Western Colorado.

This vehicle enhances the department’s ability to combat wildfires in remote areas, offering increased mobility and effectiveness in challenging conditions.

Boat 5: A New Era in Water Operations

For water-based emergencies, Boat 5 is a game changer. This jet boat specializes in swift water rescues and other aquatic operations in the region. Its inclusion addresses a vital gap in the department’s ability to respond to incidents on rivers, lakes, and other waterways.

Long-Term Planning with Community Safety in Mind

These vehicles, representing a three-year planning and procurement process, underscore the department’s commitment to serving the community with both efficiency and financial responsibility.

“Our main goal is to improve service and safety in the community,” explained Dirk Clingman of the Grand Junction Fire Department. “Every piece of apparatus is designed specifically for our needs with financial responsibility in mind. These are long-term projects and do not happen overnight. We are very proud and excited to have these vehicles.”
