Hilltop Community Resources is extending a helping hand during this year’s open enrollment period, offering guidance to Grand Junction residents through its Health Access Program. The nonprofit aims to make health insurance enrollment easier and more accessible for individuals and families alike.
Open Enrollment: Key Dates and Deadlines
Hilltop’s Health Access Program is available to assist with open enrollment, which runs through December 15. Individuals who enroll by this date can begin coverage as soon as January 1, 2025. However, for those who wait until after December 15, coverage will not start until February.
Walk-ins are welcome every Wednesday, while scheduled appointments are available on other days. To make the most of the session, participants are encouraged to update their personal and household information beforehand.
No Qualifying Event Required
Anna Cubel, Hilltop’s Health Access Coordinator, explained a significant advantage of open enrollment: no qualifying life event is necessary to purchase insurance.
“Normally, outside of the open enrollment period, you’d need a major life change like marriage, childbirth, or release from incarceration to qualify for insurance,” said Cubel.
This flexibility provides a unique opportunity for individuals to secure coverage without waiting for a specific event in their lives.
Financial Assistance Options
For many, the financial burden of health insurance can feel overwhelming. Hilltop addresses this concern by helping individuals apply for financial assistance.
“We assist people in applying for tax credits based on their household size and income,” Cubel explained. “These credits can significantly reduce premium costs, making coverage more affordable.”
This service ensures that residents, regardless of their income levels, can find options that work within their budget.
