Jeep owner punched during attempted vehicle theft in Mesa County; Crime Stoppers appeals for public help
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Local authorities are seeking assistance from the public after a violent attempted carjacking outside a popular tavern in downtown Grand Junction left one man injured and investigators with few leads.
The incident occurred on the night of Sunday, March 30, near the Brass Rail Tavern, a long-standing bar frequented by locals.
According to a report from Crime Stoppers of Mesa County, the victim had just started his Jeep when he stepped out to speak with a friend. Moments after the friend left, an unknown male grabbed the man’s shirt from behind and demanded the vehicle keys, reportedly saying:
“Give me your keys, I’m taking your Jeep.”
The victim was punched in the face during the encounter but was unable to identify the attacker—or a possible second person involved. The assailants then fled the scene, and no arrests have been made to date.
Public Appeal for Leads
Investigators believe there may be witnesses who were nearby or inside the tavern who could help identify the suspects.
