Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and local law enforcement are gearing up for their first surge operation of the year in the Grand Valley. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and reduce the incidence of dangerous driving in the area.
Surge Operation Details
Starting January 17th, CSP troopers will join forces with officers from the Grand Junction Police Department and the Fruita Police Department. Their focus will be on patrolling Highway 6 and North Avenue, two areas noted for high traffic and frequent incidents of reckless driving.
In December 2024 alone, local dispatch centers received 90 reports of dangerous drivers on Highway 6. This alarming statistic underscores the necessity of increased enforcement to deter hazardous behavior and ensure safer roads for everyone.
Focus on Safety and Prevention
CSP is urging drivers to remain vigilant and prioritize safety. Here are some key reminders from the patrol:
- Avoid distractions while driving, such as using mobile phones or other devices.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In addition, drivers are encouraged to report dangerous behavior they witness on the road. However, CSP advises against engaging with such drivers. Instead, slow down, allow them to pass, and contact CSP with details.
Community Cooperation
The success of this surge operation relies on community cooperation. By working together, law enforcement and the public can help create a safer driving environment in the Grand Valley. CSP’s message is clear: Safe driving is a shared responsibility.
