The Fort Wayne Museum of Art (FWMoA) hosted its biggest fundraising event of the year on Friday, bringing in over $400,000 to support its expanding programs. The annual gala drew art lovers, philanthropists, and community members together for a night of celebration and generosity.
A Night of Art, Giving, and Celebration
For FWMoA President and CEO Charles Shepard, the gala isn’t just about raising money—it’s about strengthening the museum’s connection with the community. “We want our audience to have a great time,” Shepard said. “Understand that what they’re doing is supporting the museum. We bring exhibitions, children’s programming, and everything else to the community. And it works, it’s the greatest night of our year.”
Guests were treated to an evening filled with gourmet meals, handcrafted appetizers, and curated art displays. The event also featured a silent auction, where attendees could bid on exclusive artwork and experiences. Drinks flowed as conversations sparked between patrons eager to support the museum’s mission.
Months of Planning for One Spectacular Evening
An event of this scale doesn’t come together overnight. Shepard highlighted the dedication and effort put forth by museum staff, who spent nearly six months organizing every aspect of the gala.
- The silent auction required careful curation, ensuring a mix of high-value and unique items.
- Caterers and event planners worked to create an elegant dining experience.
- Volunteers and staff managed the logistics, from guest check-in to final bids.
“An event like this that happens in one evening is a result of almost six months’ work on behalf of the staff,” Shepard noted. “They try and plan every single moment—from the auction to the meal, to everybody’s cocktails—and they do a fabulous job doing it.”
More Programs, Bigger Exhibits on the Horizon
The funds raised will have an immediate impact on the museum’s ability to expand its offerings. Shepard emphasized that growth is coming sooner rather than later. “Expansion, bigger collection, more service, more programming for kids and adults—and that’s just around the corner,” he said.
With this financial boost, FWMoA plans to introduce more educational programs for children, host larger exhibitions, and further integrate art into the Fort Wayne community. Whether it’s through interactive workshops or showcasing works from renowned artists, the museum aims to make art more accessible and engaging for everyone.
