Sadie Shea: From Volleyball Star to Basketball Sensation

Sadie Shea is not just a talented volleyball player, but also a rising basketball star. The Olathe High School senior has been named the Athlete of the Week by KJCT8 for her impressive performance on the court.

A Four-Year Varsity Volleyball Starter

Sadie Shea has been playing volleyball since she was in sixth grade, and she quickly developed a passion for the sport. She joined the Olathe High School varsity team as a freshman, and became one of the key players for the Pirates. She was selected as the Olathe Volleyball Player of the Year in 2023, and also made the CHSAA/MaxPreps All-State Second Team. She led her team to the Class 2A Region 5 tournament, where they faced tough opponents like Sargent and Mancos.

Shea said she loves volleyball because it is a team sport that requires communication, trust, and coordination. She also enjoys the challenge of playing different positions and roles on the court. She said her favorite position is outside hitter, because she likes to spike the ball and score points for her team.

A Soon-to-Be College Athlete

Shea’s volleyball skills did not go unnoticed by college scouts, who offered her scholarships and opportunities to play at the next level. Shea decided to sign with Lamar Community College, where she will join the Runnin’ Lopes volleyball team in the fall of 2024. She said she chose Lamar because it felt like a good fit for her academically and athletically. She also liked the campus, the coaches, and the team atmosphere.

Shea said she is excited to play college volleyball, and hopes to improve her game and learn from her new teammates and coaches. She said she wants to make an impact on the team, and help them win games and championships. She also plans to study nursing, and pursue a career in the medical field after graduation.

A Rising Basketball Star

Shea is not only a volleyball star, but also a basketball sensation. She joined the Olathe High School girls basketball team as a sophomore, and quickly became one of the leading scorers and rebounders for the Pirates. She averaged 15.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game in the 2023-24 season, and helped her team reach the Class 2A District 5 semifinals, where they lost to Rangely by a narrow margin.

Shea said she started playing basketball because she wanted to try something new, and because it was a good way to stay in shape for volleyball. She said she enjoys basketball because it is a fast-paced and physical sport, and because it helps her develop her agility, strength, and endurance. She said her favorite part of basketball is playing defense, because she likes to block shots and steal the ball from her opponents.

Shea said she is proud of her basketball achievements, and grateful for the support of her coaches, teammates, and family. She said she hopes to continue playing basketball in college, and possibly join the Lamar Community College women’s basketball team as well.

A Role Model for Young Athletes

Shea is not only a successful athlete, but also a role model for young athletes who aspire to follow in her footsteps. She said she wants to inspire others to work hard, have fun, and pursue their dreams. She said she believes that anything is possible with dedication, passion, and perseverance.

Shea said she has learned a lot from playing sports, such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, and resilience. She said she has also made lifelong friends and memories along the way. She said she is thankful for the opportunities and experiences that sports have given her, and looks forward to the next chapter of her athletic career.
