Fallen Veterans Honored at Quarterly Military Honor Ceremony

The Western Colorado Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery recently hosted a moving Military Honor Ceremony to pay tribute to fallen veterans. Community members gathered to honor the sacrifices made by these brave individuals.

Honoring Eleven Veterans

During the ceremony, eleven veterans were recognized individually. The event featured traditional military honors, including a rifle salute, the playing of taps, a cannon salute, and a bagpipe farewell. Each element of the ceremony was designed to show deep respect and appreciation for the veterans’ service.

Duncan Brown, Commander of the Grand Valley Honor Guard, highlighted the emotional impact of the flag presentation. “One of the most meaningful and impactful parts of the services that we provide is not necessarily the tributes, but the presentation of the flag,” Brown said. “As a flag is folded and then presented to a loved one of the military veteran that has passed, it often cements the idea that they truly served our country.”

Creating Lasting Memories

The ceremony holds significant importance for the families of the veterans. For many, it is the final opportunity to honor their loved ones. Brown emphasized the goal of providing families with a meaningful and lasting memory. “We try to give the family a lasting memory of their loved ones,” he added.

Quarterly Tribute

The Grand Valley Honor Guard organizes these ceremonies every quarter, ensuring regular recognition of the service and sacrifice of local veterans. The next Military Honor Ceremony is scheduled for April.
