FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Even as the Three Rivers Festival falls silent this summer, a beloved local arts tradition is keeping its momentum. The Fort Wayne heART of the City (HOTC) confirmed on Wednesday that “heART in the Park” will go on as planned, bringing artists and vendors together in a vibrant display of creativity and community.
A Longtime Tradition, Now Independent
Originally known as “Art in the Park,” the event has been a cornerstone of the Three Rivers Festival for years. With the festival’s cancellation, organizers saw an opportunity rather than a setback.
“We were typically in the parking lot of Freimann Square,” said Rachelle Reinking, a board member for HOTC. “This year, we are taking over Freimann Square with our local artists the same weekend we usually would during Three Rivers Festival, while the Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s Chalk Walk is happening.”
The name change to “heART in the Park” reflects HOTC’s dedication to showcasing local artistry and fostering a stronger connection between creators and the community.
What to Expect This Year
The event, scheduled for July 12-13 at Freimann Square Park, will remain free to the public. Organizers aim to maintain the familiar energy of previous years while introducing some fresh elements.
- Expanded Space: With the entire Freimann Square at its disposal, the event will offer a more immersive experience.
- Local Focus: Artisans from across the region will feature handmade goods, paintings, jewelry, and other crafts.
- Live Demonstrations: Visitors can watch artists at work and engage in hands-on activities.
- Community Partnerships: The event coincides with the Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s Chalk Walk, creating a larger artistic celebration in downtown Fort Wayne.
How to Get Involved
Artists interested in securing a booth can register online. Those looking to contribute in other ways—through sponsorships, donations, or volunteering—can also sign up via the official event website.
The cancellation of the Three Rivers Festival left a noticeable gap in Fort Wayne’s summer lineup. However, HOTC’s determination ensures that one of its most celebrated elements will live on. With the support of artists and the community, “heART in the Park” is set to continue as a staple of the city’s creative culture.
