FORT WAYNE, Ind. — An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend south of downtown Fort Wayne. Xavier Velez was arrested on Tuesday and is accused of killing 18-year-old Corbin Cornett on Saturday morning.

The shooting took place in the 1000 block of Huestis Avenue early on Saturday morning. After an investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Unit, authorities apprehended Velez on Tuesday in the 1800 block of East Pontiac Street without incident. He is currently being held at the Allen County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder.
