The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra (GJSO) delighted audiences with its superhero scores concert at the Avalon Theater this past weekend, captivating fans of all ages with music from iconic superhero films.
A Weekend of Superhero Symphonies
The event featured fifteen symphonies from beloved superhero movies, including scores from Batman, Star Wars, Thor, and Captain America. Over the course of four shows, more than 1,700 attendees gathered, some even donning costumes of their favorite superheroes.
Community Impact and Engagement
Conductor Charles Latshaw emphasized the significance of such events for the community.
“The Grand Junction Symphony’s been around for 46 years, and we’re putting on professional-quality concerts regularly. Concerts like this one, which play familiar superhero music, bring people dressed in costume and lots of kids and families. They are great community events. There’s really no replacement for the experience of live music,” Latshaw explained.
The GJSO aims to create an inclusive environment, encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to attend. Latshaw highlighted the accessibility and friendliness of orchestra concerts.
“If you’ve never been to an orchestra concert before, they are not as scary or stuffy as you might think. Orchestra concerts are much more friendly, and audiences are very welcoming. You don’t have to know anything about what you’re about to hear. Just listen, experience it however you want, clap when you feel like it, and enjoy the Grand Junction Symphony,” he added.
Special Initiatives for Youth
In an effort to attract younger audiences, the symphony offers free tickets to District 51 students, hoping to foster a lifelong appreciation for orchestral music among the youth.
Looking Ahead
The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra’s next performance is scheduled for the weekend of February 8th and 9th at the Asteria Theater. Attendees can look forward to another unforgettable musical experience.
